GRAFTON—Grafton High School football made its return last Friday night in Philippi. No, it was not the current Bearcat team, but a few Bearcats from the past.
A handful of GHS alumni took the show on the road, in the second annual GHS/Philip Barbour High School alumni football game. And for the second year in a row the “old” Bearcats came away with the win, 36—18.
On the roster for the Bearcats were Frank Sturm, Josh Trickett, Justin Morris, Jared Lynch, Sean Trickett, TJ Able, RT Bolyard, Corey Freeman, Logan Lake, Brody Withers, Donovan Mullins, Kameron Knotts, Corey Moore, John Lantz and Alex Gabbert.
Offensively, Sean Trickett threw for two touchdown passes, while Alex Gabbert added one of his own. Logan Lake also added a touchdown for the Cats.
On defense, TJ Able recorded three interceptions while Jared Lynch added a 102 yard pick six. The defense also added another score when Sean Trickett picked off a pass on 20 yard line, and ran it in for the Bearcats.
The next game for these two teams is scheduled a year from now, and it will return to McKinney Field, to give the GHS alumni the home field advantage. But for now, many of the participants will need the “offseason” to recover from this game.
