Bearcats represented in North-South soccer game

ELKINS —On Sunday November 20, the WVHSSCA held their annual North/South All-Star Soccer game representing athletes from around the state, two of which were from Grafton.

The North Bears team was represented by Grafton High School (GHS) Soccer Coach Arthur Knight and Senior All-State players Spencer Copeland and Layne England.

L. England would go on to score the Bears’ only goal of the game.

Layne England led the Bearcats Varsity soccer team in goals per match (0.8), goals (16) and points (39), while Spencer Copeland finished second on the season in all three categories, with 0.7 goals per match, 15 goals and 38 points. He also finished second in assists per match with 0.4.

The Grafton High School (GHS) Bearcats boys’ soccer team rounded out the season with a 14-5-4 record. 

Ranked third in Big Ten conference standings, they had finished the season on five-game win streak outscoring opponents 18-0 before dropping their 2022 campaign against Charleston Catholic.
