Bearcat Volleyball struggles to find groove at sectional seeding

GRAFTON—After a long week, which included sectional seeding at Philip Barbour on Saturday, the Grafton Lady Bearcats volleyball team was back in action this past week, hosting the Liberty Mountaineers in a Big 10 matchup at the Scotty Hamilton Gymnasium on Thursday.

The Lady Bearcats won the match by an overall score of 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 17-15), while the JV lost 2-0 by the scores of 15-25 and 8-25.

At the sectional seeding at Philip Barbour on Saturday, Grafton would eventually wind up playing five teams throughout the long day.

GHS lost the first contest to Petersburg by the scores of 16-25 and 17-25, the second contest to Frankfort 16-25 and 19-25, and the third contest to Keyser 8-25 and 22-25.

The Lady Bearcats would regroup before the fourth match to take a set off of Berkeley Springs, but would ultimately fall 3-2 to the Indians by the overall scores of 25-23, 23-25, and 12-15.

In the last contest of the night for Grafton, the Lady Bearcats would find it difficult to get much going against the always-tough Philip Barbour Colts, dropping a 9-25 and 7-25 match to the host school.

Grafton was back in action on Wednesday, September 2, as they hosted the Elkins Tigers at GHS, but results from that match were not immediately available.

Following the match with Elkins, the Lady Cats will then have a five-day break before hosting East Fairmont on October 8.
