Bearcat soccer dominates on field

GRAFTON—The Grafton Bearcats boys’ soccer team has continued to dominate play recently, winning their last two matches by a combined score of 15-0.

On Saturday, the Bearcats hosted the Petersburg Vikings at McKinney Field, with the Bearcats whipping up on the Vikings by the score of 9-0.

Seven different Bearcats were able to secure goals for Grafton, with Stetson Sanders leading the way with three. Sanders scored all of his goals in the first half, and with the help of Marik Chambers and Layne England who each scored goals in the first half,

Grafton would quickly jump ahead and take a 5-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Not much changed in the second half for Grafton except who was scoring the goals for the Bearcats, as four different players were able to find the back of the net.

Alec Correia, Eyan Moran, Garin Chambers, and Hunter Taylor all scored a goal to bring the final count to 9, while Correia pitched a shutout of Petersburg from his goal keeper position.

Chambers was credited with four steals in the contest, as well.

On Tuesday, it was much of the same as the Bearcats hosted the Preston Knights at McKinney Field. Grafton would again see multiple players score a goal, as the ‘Cats defeated the Knights by the score of 6-0.

Freshman Layne England led the way for the Bearcats, scoring two goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Also scoring goals for Grafton were Marik Chambers (who was also credited with six shots on goal and three steals), Gage McVicker, Stetson Sanders, and Cody Abraham.

“Alec and the defense added another clean sheet to the season,” said head coach Arthur Knight. “Now we have a big Homecoming battle coming up on Saturday versus Brooke.”

That match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., at McKinney Field.
