Basketball Bearcats earn post season honors

GRAFTON—Post-season honors were handed out last week for the 2018-2019 WV high school basketball season and several members of the GHS basketball teams made the grade.

On the boy’s side junior guard Jack Faulkner earned second team Big Ten honors as well as third team AA All-state. Faulkner was this year’s leading scorer for GHS and played a major role in his team advancing in to the state tournament.

“Jack has worked really hard on becoming an all around basketball player,” said head coach Michael Johnson. “He is also developing good leadership skills. He was excellent in our sectional and regional games and that carried over to a great performance in the state tournament,” he added.

Senior Caleb Bish was selected to the AA All-state honorable mention team.

“Caleb has been a three year starter for us and has improved every year,” said Coach Johnson. “He plays hard all of the time and his energy and toughness are contagious.  He normally has the most difficult task of defending the opposing teams post player and usually gives up a lot of size. We are going to miss him,” Johnson added.

Sophomore Blake Moore as also selected to the AA All-state honorable mention team.

“Blake made great strides in his sophomore season,” said Johnson. “He was our second leading scorer and really came into his own as the year progressed. He can score and is a really strong defender. His defensive effort in the post season was great,” he added.

On the girl’s side freshman Meredith Maier was selected to the AA All-state honorable mention team.

“We are very proud of Meredith in the way she played this season as a freshman,” said Coach Andrew Moore. “With the experience she gained this year and with her work ethic we are looking for strong sophomore season next winter,” he added.
