GRAFTON- The Base Invader 12U program ended their season this week as they traveled to Shinnston for tournament play.
The 12U would drop the first game of the tournament to Shinnston, eliminating their chance at a tournament victory to end their season.
The Base Invaders got overwhelmed early by the superior pitching of the Shinnston squad, who would score seven unanswered runs in the first inning and would easily cruise to victory, with the game called in the third with a final score of 18-0.
“This was our first-ever tournament. We will hopefully have more to come in the years ahead. This Shinnston team had an outstanding pitcher, and when we did hit, they had an equally good defense to back her up. It is hard for a first-year team to compete on that level,” expressed Coach Jay Taylor.
When asked how he felt about this past season, Taylor further elaborated “It’s a wrap on the season. We have had lots of lessons learned. We have had lots of friendships built and an incredible amount of fun.”
“I am enormously proud of these young ladies,” he voiced. “They will do well in the future with whatever they choose to become.”
With all the summer recreational girls’ softball seasons at an end, the ladies of the Base Invaders program can officially hang up their gloves and cleats until next season, where we hope to see them take the field again.
