Balanced scoring leads Bearcats over Pocahontas


GRAFTON – The Grafton High School boys basketball team opened their 2018-2019 season Wednesday night as they hosted Pocahontas County in the first round of the Sam Bord Memorial Tournament.

The Cats started slow as their first basket did not come until the four minute mark in the first quarter when Garrett Moats buried a three from the left side to make the game 9 to 3. The Cats would close the gap to two points and at the end of the first the Cats were down 14 to 12.

Seven different Bearcats would score in the second quarter as they would pull away for a 37 to 30 halftime lead.

The Cats would extend their lead in the third as they outscored Pocahontas 27 to 19. The Cats would close it out going away in the fourth as they cruised to a 85 to 65 victory.

Dylan Massie led the Cats with 17 points followed by Blake Moore with 15. The remaining Cats in the score book were Jack Faulkner (12), Logan Beltner (12), Ryan Maier (10), Garrett Moats (10), Matt Gallo (5), Blain Moore (2) and Carson Lambert (2).

The Bearcats will play in the Championship game tonight at the Scotty Hamilton Gymnasium with the tipoff scheduled for 9:15 p.m.
