Andrew “Andy” Saltis, 82, of Flemington, WV, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 6, 2019, at home.
He was born in Flemington on December 26, 1936, a son of the late John and Mae (Costillow) Saltis.
Mr. Saltis is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bernetta (Delaney) Saltis.
In addition to his wife Andy is survived by three children: Robert Andrew Saltis and wife Denese of Kerens, Lori Saltis of Bridgeport, and Eric Anthony Saltis and companion Cynthia Freeman of Kerens; seven siblings: Pete Saltis of Flemington, George Saltis of Lorraine, OH, Steve Saltis (Twyla) of Astor, Joe Saltis (Lucy) of Flemington, Paul Saltis (Candy) of Grafton, Mike Saltis of Flemington, and Elizabeth “Tippy” Carr of Philippi; and good friends Jocko and Sonya Shingleton of FL. Andy was a heavy equipment operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE 132) for over 50 years. His work took him many places over the years, and he was able to help on countless projects, but he was especially proud of his work on the WVU Stadium. He was one of the first employees there to help on construction and one of the last out when it was completed, something he was very fond of. Andy was a hard worker, not just in his career, but at home, always doing things around the house and enjoyed running his tractor. When he wasn’t working, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, and also loved going camping. He and his wife Bernetta also loved going to Gospel Sings together over the years. In addition to his many family and friends, he leaves behind his special companions, cat “Shad” and dog “Bozo.”
