Alva Lee Moore, 95, of Orangeburg, SC, passed away Sunday April 4, 2021 at the Veterans Hospital Warriors Walk in Columbia, SC.
Alva was the husband of the late Phyllis Virginia Towner Moore.
Alva was born in Grafton, West Virginia, a son of the late Delbert Alva Moore and Iris Mabel McConkey Moore.
Alva was a World War II Veteran, after joining the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17, and was member of the offensive unit the South Pacific. Alva returned home to WV to complete his high school education. he went to work with the A & P Grocery store in Grafton, before being hired at C & P Telephone Co. of WV in June 1947. He retired as a Line Construction Foreman in Sep. 1982, and moved to Orangeburg, SC in Oct. 1983. He was a member of the Scottish Rites, VFW, American Legion, Telephone Pioneers of WV and SC, Marine Corp League, Devil Dogs, First United Methodist Church of Clarksburg, WV and St. Andrews United Methodist Church of Orangeburg, SC.
Survivors include his daughters, Kelly M. Kruger (Philip) and Ilene Corothers (Lester); son, David Moore; Grandchildren, Shawn Bragg (Lijuan), Jason Moore (Erin), Jonathan Bragg (Jenny), Amanda Hickson (Tripp), Liam Moore, and Emily Kruger; Great Grandchildren, Louis Bragg, Emma and Gage Moore, Freya and Nico Bragg, and Bristol Hickson.
A Memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Dukes Harley Funeral Home Chapel, with Military Honors. The family received friends before the service from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. CDC guidelines for the COVID-19 virus and social distancing were observed during the service. All attendees were required to wear a mask.
