PETERSBURG – The Grafton High School boys basketball team headed west on Saturday, to make the two hour drive to Petersburg.
The Bearcats used a 32 point fourth quarter to run away with a 80—66 victory.
In the first quarter, the Cats and Vikings stayed close with one another, as the Cats would take a 16—13 lead after one. Four different Bearcats found the bottom of the net for GHS in the first.
The points were few and far between in the second quarter, as GHS scored 12 and held the Vikings to nine.
Freshman Ryan Maier scored 11 of the Bearcats’ 12 points. At the half the Bearcats held a six point lead at 28—22.
Coach Mike Johnson would inspire his offense in the second half, as they outscored Petersburg 52—44 in the second half.
The Bearcats had six players in double figures in the contest. Jack Faulkner led the Bearcats with 17 points, followed by Maier and Bish with 14 points apiece.
The remaining GHS points came from Blake Moore (13), Dylan Massie (11) and Garrett Moats (11).
The JV Cats were not in action against Petersburg.
The Cats will be back in action tomorrow night at Philippi. The JV game will begin at 5:45 p.m., with the varsity game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
The Cats are then back in action Friday, at home, against Berkeley Springs. The girls varsity contest starts at 5:45 p.m., with the boys varsity game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
