CLARKSBURG— The Taylor County Middle School (TCMS) Lady Knights soccer team played their season opener against Washington Irving (WI) Middle School yesterday.
The Lady Knights started off slow but soon gained the momentum with a score from eighth grade standout Madalyn Haddix.
The Lady Knights were able to control the ball, as they kept the ball on the home side of the field for most of the first half.
As the second half began, the storms started to roll in forcing a delay in the action and the Knights were sidelined for about forty-five minutes until the weather cleared.
The intermission gave TCMS time to regroup as they came out on fire for the second half, as Miley Singleton booted in a penalty kick to bring the score to 2-0.
Haddix, Leah Knotts and Bailey Satterfield all combined goals to give the Lady Knights a 5-0 win for their season opener.
Head Coach Joey Haddix elaborated on the opening win, “Coach Freeman and I are very proud of this young team. We still have work to do, but these ladies are ready to work. We played a good game; we kept the ball on our end of the field for the majority of play. We increased our communication and passing which led to more scoring opportunities.”
The Lady Knights will be back in action on September 14, at home against Philippi.
